Susan has worked in private practice and community mental health, which has given her a wide range of experience in emotional and behavioral issues for families, couples and individuals of all ages. These include but are not limited to stress, poor self-esteem, divorce counseling, parenting support, grief & loss, depression, anxiety, attachment disorders, trauma and ADHD. And although she is not certified with the Association, she has positive experience using therapy techniques such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, also known as EMDR.
- Couples/Marriage Therapy builds emotional engagement, increases openness and risk-taking, discovers one another’s fears and longings as well as becoming more connected. It creates a way to actively participate in their relationship in a way that resembles a dance between two individuals.
- Individual Therapy uses an eclectic approach in order to meet the individual needs of each client. This is achieved by creating a therapeutic relationship based on unconditional positive regard, openness, respect, genuineness, compassion and nonjudgment. I believe in a multidimensional approach that takes into concern the individual’s dietary habits/nutrition, exercise, sleep hygiene, personal psychology, life and occupational experiences, as well as their personal and family relationship and health history patterns.
- Play Therapy is a therapy technique used with children and adolescents, where they express their inner world of feelings, struggles, perceptions, and wishes through play. It can help children problem solve in a safe environment by allowing them to try alternative solutions. Theraplay is a certified interactive child and family therapy designed to focus on building and enhancing attachment, self-esteem, trust in others, and joyful engagement.
- Family Therapy involves providing a safe place for family members to express their experiences and to educate parents on the importance of playfulness, acceptance, curiosity and empathy when building secure relationships. Family therapy also focuses on healing breaks in relationships which can include conflicts and misattunements.
- Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing is an evidence-based treatment of Post-Traumatic Stress and other Trauma Disorders. Traumatic memories and adverse life experiences may inhibit the individual from living fully in the moment. In trauma, the memory is stored in the limbic system on the right side of the brain. Bilateral stimulation of the brain helps individuals to reprocess traumatic memories in a way that allows them to recall the stressful event without the emotional intensity.
