Susan is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor in Naperville. She graduated with a Masters of Science with a focus in Clinical Psychology from Benedictine University in 2006. She has attended training in both Level I and II Theraplay and each year she also completes continuing education credits to maintain her license as a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor.
Over the last decade Susan has worked in community mental health as well as private practice. Her experience has been working with clients through all ages of life with symptoms including but not limited to depression, anxiety, parenting and behavioral disorders in childhood. She focuses on a client-centered foundation with a therapeutic relationship that is based on unconditional positive regard, genuineness, compassion, openness, nonjudgment, and respect. In addition to she can utilize other approaches, including attachment-focused therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, dialectical-behavioral therapy, and play therapy with Children. As a mother she has passion for the challenges parents can face with parenting, and as an animal lover she knows the struggles in the loss of a companion.
Susan strives to create a comfortable and safe environment in which each person can blossom and shine, because she believes in an individual's ability to grow and self-actualize in the right environment.
As Carl Rogers once stated quite eloquently, "People are just as wonderful as sunsets if you let them be. When I look at a sunset, I don't find myself saying, 'Soften the orange a bit on the right hand corner.' I don't control a sunset, I watch with awe as it unfolds."
